Low cost Bike Storage Solutions

Storing bicycles is difficult for a number of reasons; they are an awkward shape, they are easily knocked over and often if they are regularly used that are wet and muddy. For these reasons the idea of storing them inside the home is often ruled out. At this point it is necessary to look at other methods for storing bicycles.

If you are not going to keep your bike in the garage then you will need to look at some form of other storage area  – do you have a garage? If you do there are a number of garage storage solutions on the market which will keep you bike safe and maximise the floorspace in your garage.  For less than $20 you can get wall mounted and ceiling mounted bicycle storage solutions that will hold one or more bike. If cash really is tight then for a couple of dollars you could get a couple of shelf brackets, wrap them in foam and use those to hang your bike from. This is a simple but very cost effective method to keep your bike of the ground and prevent it from being knocked over. If you don’t have a garage they you are going to need to look at some form of cycle shelter and this will cost more.

Timber cycle shelters are the cheapest form of outdoor cycle shelter you can get. A simple softwood overlap cycle shelter should cost you no more than a $150 and will last you quite a long time – although you will have to look after it. Softwood outdoor structures will require some form of annual treatment to prevent them from rotting. But for a $150 dollars you will have a place that you can keep a couple of bikes and all of their accessories and tools.
