Rustic bedding should be warm and comfortable. It’s one of the few themes that can be masculine enough for a bachelor pad or a teen’s room. This is really a chance to play around with inexpensive materials.
Try out microsuede bedding. This could be in a sage green or a tan. This is going to be very soft and comfortable. You don’t even need a pattern because the material is so textured. It can feel very opulent but is usually quite inexpensive to buy.
Burlap is very rustic and could remind you of life on the farm. However, it’s also become a huge statement in home décor. You could just make a few throw pillows out of this although it’s not going to be soft. This allows you to use a lot of neutral colors in your design while still getting an interesting look. You can create your own pattern with a stencil. This could be sophisticated like a family crest. You could also bring in other natural colors like a sage green. For a more subtle effect go for a paint color that is only one or two shades off from the burlap. You could use the extra yards of fabric in other spaces to cover a counter height sets or a rustic dining table.
Plaid and flannel are other staples in this design style. This can feel a little bit masculine so you might just want to stick with neutral colors of bedding. You can bring this in with a throw blanket. You could also just take old shirts and turn them into throw pillows or a patchwork quilt depending on your sewing skills. If you want to have a sense of humor in your design style then try to integrate a row of buttons on your pillows so it mimics the original shirt design. This also brings you a ton of options for accent colors because it does really give you a very defined color palette. Plaids will have a lot of thin lines in various colors. This can help you pick out your wall color.
